#1. About ASSTR.org
Alt Sex Stories Text Repository, or ASSTR for short, is a famous free story website supported by members which hosts an impressive number of different sex stories and poems, many archived and famous collections, all while calling itself home to more than 1000 authors. The site is known for helping launch the careers of erotic authors like Mary Anne Mohanraj and Elf Sternberg.
#2. First Impressions
Can I start by saying that ASSTR is probably the first .org site in the XXX industry that utilizes the domain name properly? What a miracle! Yes, ASSTR uses a donation system instead of ads to keep it running. They even accept a check in your name, which you can mail to the PO Box. Sadly, the last donations were either not added or were made in 2017. I will put some blame on ASSTR as well. They make it ridiculously hard to donate and rely on methods that haven’t been used for centuries. It's good that their recent stories are from this year and not a decade ago.
When you first open ASSTR.org, you'll notice that it features a very practical, text-based design free of ads. Once you get past the site's looks, you'll notice sections for almost anything you could need. Visitors can look at a list of authors that features new stories from each one, read bios, or check out new arrivals.
#3. Content & User Experience
The most frustrating thing about ASSTR is “hidden” away. Click on any of the stories to see a very different layout from the home page. Then, go back and hit on more stories, and the skin will change again. It’s like the days of MySpace where every user had its page with horrible, non-unified layouts, raining NSFW GIFs, etc. - hell, the first time I visited, ASSTR left me confused. I thought the site was redirecting to random 3rd party pages that somehow utilize the ASSTR.org domain name. But that was a false idea. This issue needs fixing ASAP, and while I support some styling features, the layout should never be different.
In terms of content, you can find stories going back decades in the archive section, which is split into various collections. Some are more famous than others, or you can check out the best new authors and works. Thanks to the sheer number of stories and writers, every orientation and category you could think of is covered. Users can also submit their works and list themselves as an author. User submissions, by the way, aren’t limited to traditional text. ASSTR hosts.EPUB files, too, are the ones you open with our eBook reader, aka Kindle.
Is there anything else worth advertising? There are recommended stories, a list of the most recent ones, a basic and advanced search, some news, FAQs, and a sitemap. Their advanced search is decent, by the way. You can search by keyword, author, summary, title, universe, size limits, and other factors. Unfortunately, the site is not mobile-friendly at all, so you'll have to do a lot of zooming in and out to get anything done. I think that Alt.Sex.Stories Text Repository is in its own “hell.” Not enough users are donating, and that means no money for a massive relaunch. The same system means even fewer users and so on.
#4. Conclusion
Those who want access to one of the best archives and free sites for sex stories should check ASSTR. Despite a minimalistic design, the site offers a lot of functionality and an ad-free experience.
