#1. About Hot.com
There is no way that the Hot.com domain name was just registered and as the records show, it dates to 1991. Can you even picture that decade? It was before the major dotcom bubble and as I imagine (just making a guess there), the domain name must have changed hands since then. If not, then at least the concept and now, they are presenting themselves as a secure search engine.
#2. First Impressions
The Hot website introduces (or classifies) itself as a private and secure search engine, but they are not telling the full story. It does search “the web” but most image searches are limited to escorts. This is a mistake on their part because there’s no such indication at the homepage nor could we find the “about us” section. So, since I was led to believe that Hot.com is a simple search engine, my first attempts were broad at best. Imagine my surprise when “ass” did not return any results while looking for images. This gave me a rather tame impression and I must not be the only one. At least that is my hope. So, I click on the “all” results and it automatically fills my query with additional keywords, resulting in this message: “Results are shown for buy "ass"”. Okay, at this point, I’m still confused on what is Hot.com to begin with. Again, I’m reenacting the impressions for the first-time users and by now, I would’ve given up.
As you browse around Hot.com looking for hooks or ideas, it becomes evident that the search concept itself lacks clear direction. Is it a search engine for sex toys, escorts, or adult fantasies? Since the “first part” of its homepage does not tell you anything, you come expecting things that are different. So, dial down your expectations and try to look at Hot.com from the different angle because decent adjustments are required. To give you a better idea on how Hot works or how we understand it, I should expand and move to the user experience area. Hopefully, you are still with us and are keen to figure out what the hell is this place all about. By the end, the picture should be clearer if not as clear as cum out of the whore’s mouth.
#3. Content & User Experience
As per our second attempt, the visit to Hot.com homepage made us explore the site even more. As it turns out, there is a whole new area of “fast search” links after the search bar which, and that’s how it should be, populates the whole area. In other words, the starting page looks clean and has no useless links or ads. However, once you push that mouse wheel into the depths of hell, a list of countries appears and those could still be confusing. At the top you have United States divided into multiple regions and followed by more countries. I click on “Texas” and a new page opens with more links that all lead to different pages. There you have “escorts in Texas”, “sex shops in Texas”, and stuff that is tailored to this specific country. I move to the escort area and now Hot.com starts making sense. It is a search engine for escorts, right?
There is a sidebar on the left side and here people can narrow down hoes by hair color, ecocity, eye color, and so on. Sadly, the results are very limited and depending on your country, disappointing. I do use a virtual private network and the queries were limited to results in Slovenia. What’s worse is that there was no option that I could find which allowed me to change the search results. For a search engine that claims to be “private” and “secure”, they sure lack in options that honor users of such networks. Honestly, I’m still confused and don’t know what Hot.com tries to be but again, the more you explore, the better it gets.
Lastly, the web search results can sometimes look as spammy as in the early days of the internet and no better query illustrates that than “porn”. Look at all the keyword stuffing and descriptions that appear after every link, it’s messy.
#4. Conclusion
As cool as the Hot.com name sounds, it still lacks in many areas, namely content quantity as well as identity, and that’s the Achilles heel of any search engine. They’ll need to populate their escort (or product) database much further because for now, it’s not great and there are many awesome porn sites, as you know.
